A comparison of Diagnostic Reference Levels (DRLs) for diagnostic nuclear medicine procedures with doses recommended by manufacturers in package inserts
The Code of Practice for Radiation Protection in Nuclear Medicine (ARPANSA Radiation Protection Series No. 14, 2008) will require that nuclear medicine practices establish a program to ensure that radiation doses administered to a patient for diagnostic purposes are periodically compared with diagnostic reference levels (DRLs) for diagnostic procedures for which DRLs have been established in Australia. DRLs for Australia have been published on the Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine website (www.anzsnm.org.au) and have been quoted in the Safety Guide for Radiation Protection in Nuclear Medicine (ARPANSA RPS No. 14.2, 2008). The DRLs are compared with the recommended patient doses given by manufacturers in radiopharmaceuticals (“ready to use” and “cold kits”) currently marketed in Australia.
