A Strong Foundation for the Education of Nuclear Medicine Scientists
The University of Newcastle Nuclear Medicine Science program has undergone significant evolution in the past 3 years. The program has moved to an annual intake to ensure the long term viability of the program. This change has encouraged the University to make significant investments in specialised Nuclear Medicine teaching & research equipment, laboratory space and recruiting experienced academic staff members.
To provide a wider learning experience for the students we are fortunate to receive significant support from well respected conjoint lecturers who provide their expertise & time.
An exciting development will see The University of Newcastle open a new purpose built, state-of-the-art radiopharmacy laboratory in 2009, designed for undergraduate & postgraduate education. The laboratory is equipped with 10 fully integrated purpose-built dispensing workstations for single photon radiopharmaceuticals, 2 integrated positron radiopharmaceutical dispensing workstations and a demonstration workstation. The demonstration workstation has audiovisual facilities to enable staff to demonstrate radiopharmacy skills via a large screen and the internet.
In addition, The University of Newcastle has purchased a dedicated 3D PET scanner which opens up a huge range of possibilities for education and research.
Ultimately, the provision of a well resourced Nuclear Medicine program benefits not only Nuclear Medicine students but also the whole Nuclear Medicine community.
