The Challenges Faced by Migrant Nuclear Medicine Technologists Applying for Work in Australia
Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NMT) has been one of the jobs listed at the top of the skills shortage list in Australia for a number of years. Migrant workers have the opportunity to apply for these positions, however, the process of application has many hurdles and may factor into deterring many potential applicants.
This poster aims to outline the process that migrant workers go through in order to become a NMT in Australia, with each step discussed in detail, starting with the application for the assessment of eligibility to undertake the Overseas Qualification Assessment exam, the exam itself, the enrollment into the ANZSNM Professional Development Year (PDY)/Mentor Program and the Medical Radiation Technologist Board (MRTB) Supervised Practice Program (SPP) in Queensland. The process of applying for PDY vacancies in Australia from overseas will also be discussed, as well as the application for sponsorship visas, medical examinations, the fees incurred and the time taken for each step.
